Spotify makes its entry into the metaverse with ‘Spotify Island’ on Roblox

The popular music app Spotify is now the latest company to join the Metaverse. The music platform recently launched a virtual island in the hit game Roblox where participants can share 3D experiences.

The green island includes a stage area where players can create music, explore the Metaverse and interact in virtual venues. Along with this, participants will have access to exclusive virtual merchandise. Users can even create their own music and sounds via beat-maker stations that are powered by Soundtrap. Interestingly, easter eggs have been hidden throughout the virtual world for users to discover.

In a press release, Spotify stated:

“Through this interactive world, we’re creating a place where fans can link up and create new sounds together, hang out in digital spaces, and gain access to exclusive virtual merch. Spotify Island is an audio oasis that has it all,”

While the company did not specify whether the stage would be used for virtual concerts, it remains the first music streamer to establish an official presence on Roblox.

The first of the themed islands includes K-Park, which will be released later this spring and serve as “a homage to all things K-pop” with artists Stray Kids and SUNMI. Spotify has stated that it will return a portion of the revenue generated from in-game merchandise sales back to the artists.

Roblox Studio, a user-friendly desktop design tool, is used by millions of artists across the world every month to build their own immersive multiplayer experiences. Earlier this month, Brand New Vision Ltd (BNV) also entered the metaverse and unveiled its inaugural in-house fashion wearables.
