Fortnite creator, Epic Games, raised $2 Billion dollar to make a Metaverse with LEGO

With big ambition to build a metaverse, Epic Games announced it has raised $2 billion in a round of funding that includes big names from Sony and Kirkbi group who founded LEGO. Epic Games brought the world Fortnite and created renown game development engine tool, Unreal Engine. The latest valuation for the company is $31.5 billion.

Sony had previously invested in Epic and last week a huge announcement of Epic and LEGO partnering up on a collaboration project. The goal is to create a family-friendly metaverse.

“This investment will accelerate our work to build the metaverse and create spaces where players can have fun with friends, brands can build creative and immersive experiences, and creators can build a community and thrive,” stated by Epic’s CEO, Tim Sweeney in a press release.

Epic is no stranger to bringing multiverse of big IPs and franchises together. They’ve added Marvels properties, popular movie characters and celebrity collaborations to their Fortnite offerings. Many features like concert events inspiration from other metaverse projects can be traced back to the innovation and execution of Epic Games.
