Polygon Joins Disney’s ‘Accelerator Program’ to Build NFT Experiences

Polygon, a Layer-2 scaling platform, has been selected to participate in Disney’s 2022 Accelerator Program, which will begin this week, to expand on Polygon’s Web3 technology.

According to a statement issued by The Walt Disney Company on Wednesday, the Ethereum scaling platform is one of six initiatives selected for the Accelerator Program, which is focused this year on augmented reality (AR), nonfungible tokens (NFTs), and artificial intelligence (AI). Polygon CEO Ryan Watt noted on Wednesday that Polygon was “the only blockchain selected” to Disney’s prestigious Accelerator program.

What is Disney’s Accelerator Program all about?

Basically, Disney’s accelerator program was launched in 2014, and members can receive mentorship from the Disney Accelerator Team as well as assistance from Disney’s own leadership team. Applications for the accelerator program opened on April 22 and closed on May 13, 2022. At the time, Disney stated that the accelerator will seek “growth-stage startups with a vision for impacting the future of technology and entertainment.”

Furthermore, this year, two new Web3 projects were chosen, including Lockerverse, a Web3 storytelling platform that links companies and creators, and Flickplay, a Web3 application that enables users to discover NFTs through augmented reality (AR). According to reports, participants would also receive additional funding for investments and would have access to co-working space at Walt Disney’s Los Angeles campus.

A Demo Day on campus will wrap up the curriculum.

Polygon, formerly known as the Matic Network, is a blockchain framework focusing on interoperability with a suite of scaling tools used to construct Ethereum-compatible decentralized apps (DApps). Polygon’s scaling solutions were designed to overcome the Ethereum mainnet’s restrictions, including sluggish transaction speed (TPS) and hefty transaction fees. The price of MATIC, Polygon’s native token, was up 5.7% to $0.5786 over the last 24 hours.
