Ethereum Blockchain Game Illuvium Sells Over $72 Million in NFT Land Plot

Illuvium, an upcoming Ethereum-based collectible NFT roleplaying game,  tweeted Sunday that it sold more than $72 million in digital land sales.

The sale of the Illuvium land took place between June 2nd and June 5th, 2022.  Of the 20,000 plots of land available,  19,969 digital lands have been sold and the remaining 31 plots are retained for future giveaways.  The Illuvium land NFTs built on Immutable X, a layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum that allows cheaper, faster, and more energy efficient transactions.

Illuvium also tweeted that there was no gas war during the sale of the digital land, which is when Ethereum’s gas prices soared due to increased demand for users to close transactions quickly on the blockchain.  This is because Illuvium includes the Immutable engine.  It was developed by scaling technology developer Immutable to reduce NFT transaction fees and allow self-custody of NFTs.

In the Illuvium universe, players start off having crashed on an alien planet ‘Illuvium’ and encounter strange creatures called ‘Illuvials’.  Players can then capture and use it in battles.  Players earn rewards and experience through battles that allow them to advance to the more dangerous terrains of Illuvium.

Illuvium will be released on PC and macOS in the third quarter of 2022.  Players can buy weapons and armors as NFTs that are useful throughout the game.  It can later be resold on the in-game marketplace IlluviDEX, which hasn’t been released yet.
