OpenSea, one of the popular NFT marketplace, confirmed yesterday that it will be listing NFTs minted on the Solana Blockchain such as Solana Monkey Business NFTs.

OpenSea announced the news with 16 seconds of videos posted on its official OpenSea twitter account, which OpenSea tweeted with “the best kept secret in web3.” At the end of the short video, it shows that Solana support is coming in April, 2022.  Exact date was not shown, but expected to see the feature in early April.

Solana is a public blockchain platform with its native cryptocurrency SOL.  As of today, It has almost $8 billion worth of value locked on its blockchain according to Defi Llama. It also has the second most popular NFT ecosystem which gained popularity last fall with growing collections such as Solana Monkey Business, Degenerate Ape Academy, and Aurory.  Solana claims to offer lower costs, faster and cheaper than the competitor, Ethereum’s mainnet.

The first leaks showed possible integration of Solana into OpenSea in January 2022, when famous technology blogger and app researcher Jane Manchun Wong shared a screenshot of showing Solana and Phantom wallet as an option on OpenSea.  Phantom wallet is a cryptocurrency wallet by Solana which is unavailable to use on OpenSea.

Two days ago, she shared a screenshot of the “Solana Beta” logo and Phantom wallet as an option which might be the sign that Solana launch on OpenSea is near.  Solana metaverse platform Portals tweeted, “We are excited about @opensea integrating Solana NFTs, and especially excited for @_portals_!”.

OpenSea is the most popular NFT marketplace where users are able to purchase gaming items, digital art and NFTs.  Currently, It offers NFTs based on three different blockchain; Ethereum, Polygon and Klaytn.  In January, OpenSea was valued at $13.3B in new round of venture funding.
