Spotify Reported to Testing NFT Galleries on Artists Page

A Spotify representative adds, “We routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve artist and fan experiences. Some of those tests end up paving the way for a broader experience and others serve only as an important learning.”

How Does it Work?

Artists can promote their NFTs in their gallery located right below the song list on the artist’s Spotify page. The NFT images can be enlarged by tapping on them which prompts a “See More” option that takes users to the NFT’s listing on OpenSea, a marketplace for NFTs.

NFT on the popular Spotify App

Artists can promote their NFTs in their gallery located right below the song list on the artist’s Spotify page. The NFT images can be enlarged by tapping on them followed by a brief description of the listed NFT. Once you tap on the image, a “See More” option pops up and provides users the choice to check out the NFT’s listing on OpenSea, a marketplace for NFTs.

It is worth noting that Spotify does not support NFTs that are GIFs, videos, or NFTs with sounds but only display the stand still image of the NFT on app. There are no known reports stating Spotify will make changes to include such features – quite odd for a music app.

In early March of this year, the music streaming app was reportedly looking to expand into the Web3 space after the company was spotted looking for senior-level engineers to join their team. The new hires will be imperative to Spotify’s experimental growth team as they expand their focus on Web3 components mapping out their next move into integrating music with NFT projects.

Speaking of next moves, this isn’t the first time Spotify has made its appearance in the crypto community. Spotify recently launched a virtual island in beloved game, Roblox, where players can interact and share their love for music. This expansion opens the gates of exposure for crypto and NFT users and lovers as popular apps – like Spotify – are seen slowly integrating their prominent app into the crazy world of NFTs.
