The Nelson Mandela Foundation Releases NFTs For Mandela Day

The Nelson Mandela Foundation is launching a line of NFTs in honour of Mandela Day. The initiative celebrates the life and legacy of the former South African president and was developed in close collaboration with the Auckland-based Glorious Digital.

Although there isn’t an official release date just yet, this long-term research will explore the legacy Nelson Mandela has left through NFTs. Significantly, the project’s funding will expand the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s reach.

Who is Nelson Mandela?

Nelson Mandela, known as Madiba, was the former president of South Africa, an icon of democracy and a Nobel Peace Prize winner. However, his life was difficult, having lived through the brutal racist and horrific system of white rule known as Apartheid in South Africa.

Between 1962 and 1990, Mandela spent most of his 27 years in jail on Robben Island in an effort to end Apartheid. The Nelson Mandela NFTs will pay attention to every facet of his life.

Apartheid started to fall apart in 1990 as a result of increasing international pressure and the danger of widespread public upheaval. Nelson Mandela and other significant civil rights activists were ultimately set free.

In South Africa’s first-ever free and fair general election, Madiba ran for president in 1994. Voting was previously a privilege reserved for white people. Four years after the harsh Apartheid system was abolished, South Africa got its first black president thanks to his victory.

Nelson Mandela NFTs will provide access to historical artefacts

The team behind the project chose July 18th due to its significance. This is Mandela Day all across the world. It was the former president’s birthday. The United Nations declared the day official in 2009.

Nelson Mandela passed away in 2013. His impact on South Africa and the rest of the globe, on the other hand, will live on. These NFTs will dig into Nelson Mandela’s entire life and the impact it had on society.

Glorious Digital will have access to personal papers, photographs, and other materials as a result of its collaboration with the Nelson Mandela Foundation. In essence, the initiative will endure ten years and will honour the Nobel Peace Prize winner’s legacy.

Tim Harper, Glorious Digital’s Chief Executive said,

“To be entrusted with Mandela’s archive, legacy, and messages of togetherness, optimism, leadership, equality, freedom and hope, amongst others, is an honour and a privilege,”

Glorious Digital is a vastly popular NFT agency and marketplace. Glorious Digital recently collaborated with the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club to commemorate Wimbledon’s 100th anniversary. The collection was a big success.

Now, the team will collaborate with the Mandela Foundation on the Nelson Mandela NFTs.
